Methodology

Methodology

How sales and prices on F1 Card Index are gathered, verified, and cleaned — so you know exactly what the numbers mean.

Every board on this Site follows the same rules. The goal is consistency: when you compare two drivers or two cards, you should be comparing like for like.

Where the data comes from

Pricing reflects completed, public transactions aggregated from across the hobby, including:

We aggregate from these public sources rather than maintaining a proprietary price database, and we point you to live tools so you can verify any comp yourself.

What counts as a sale

A tracked sale is a completed transaction of a single card. Active or unsold listings are not treated as sales. Where a listing shows an asking price rather than a confirmed sale, it is not counted as a record.

Records

A driver's record is the single highest verified sale we have tracked for that driver. Top 10 boards list the ten highest verified sales, sorted by price.

Deduplication

The same physical card often resells more than once. When we can confirm a card is the same copy — matching serial number or grading certificate — it appears once, at its highest verified sale, rather than padding the board with repeats.

Distinct parallels

Different serial numbers of the same numbered parallel are treated as distinct cards and can both appear. A “5/5” and a “2/5” of the same parallel are different physical cards. Different patches or print variations are likewise treated separately.

Currency

Foreign-currency sales are converted to US dollars at an approximate exchange rate near the time of sale, and recorded at that converted value. Currency conversion can move a card's rank slightly, which is why every figure should be treated as indicative.

What's excluded

Grading

Cards trade both raw and graded (PSA, BGS, SGC, and others). Boards note the grade where known. Grade materially affects value, so a raw and a graded copy of the same card are not directly interchangeable.

Images

Thumbnail images are drawn from listing photos for identification only and remain the property of their respective owners.

How often it updates

The live market view (auctions ending soon and recent sold prices) refreshes continuously. Per-driver Top 10 boards are updated as significant new sales surface and are verified before being added.

Bottom line: the numbers here are a carefully cleaned, consistent snapshot — not gospel. Markets move, sources err, and currencies shift. Always confirm a comp at the source before you act on it.
